Mentoring And Inspiring Women In Radio Launches Erica Farber Mentorship In Management Program ...

Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) has launched the application process for the second annual Erica Farber Mentorship in Management Program, a year-long initiative designed to provide professional development for women in senior leadership roles across the radio industry. The program, which pairs selected participants with top executives and thought leaders, focuses on strategic growth, leadership training, and industry advancement.

According to MIW Board President Sheila Kirby, "The Erica Farber Mentorship in Management program embodies the mission of MIW; to champion, mentor, and equip women to lead with confidence and impact" (Radio Ink, 2025). The Erica Farber Mentorship in Management Program is open to women working in all sectors of radio, including sales, programming, marketing, and digital.

The program's inaugural class in 2025 included notable participants such as Townsquare Media Group Digital Solutions Manager Alyssa Salisbury, NRG Media Promotions Director and On-Air Talent Kim Stead, Hubbard Radio Sales Manager Sheri Fermoyle, and Hampton Roads Media Group Director of Sales Tiffany Cobb. The program is made possible through a partnership with WideOrbit, which shares MIW's dedication to empowering women in radio (Radio Ink, 2025).

The radio industry has historically been male-dominated, but recently, there has been a significant shift towards increasing female representation in leadership positions. According to a study by the National Association of Broadcasters, women now hold approximately 40% of all radio station management positions, up from 25% in 2010 (NAB, 2020). This growth is largely attributed to the efforts of organizations such as Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW), which aim to provide women with the necessary tools and support to succeed in leadership roles.

Despite this progress, women in radio leadership still face unique challenges.
A survey conducted by Radio Ink found that women in leadership positions often struggle with work-___ balance, and may feel pressure to conform to traditional masculine leadership styles (Radio Ink, 2019). However, research has also shown that women leaders bring distinct strengths to the table, including strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a collaborative approach to decision-making (Harvard Business Review, 2018). By embracing and supporting women in leadership, the radio industry can tap into these strengths and create a more diverse and effective leadership landscape.

The importance of mentorship and sponsorship cannot be overstated in helping women advance to leadership positions in radio.
